Restorative Yoga & Ahimsa

Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing. [Arundhati Roy]

In the Nov/Dec 2011 issue of Stanford Magazine, there’s a blurb about me and Roger Cole practicing restorative yoga. We became colleagues via a research study on restorative yoga and the metabolic syndrome, but the quirky background story is that we both lived in the same vegetarian co-op a decade apart. Now 20-30 years later, the co-op’s theme still is dedication to social change through nonviolent action. Ahimsa. This is where I learned to bake bread, facilitate consensus decision-making, appreciate the power of nonviolent activism, and feel the quiet breathing of possibility.
